Job Overview
Our boutique, internationally recognized, and growing oculoplastic surgery practice is hiring an experienced Surgical Physician Assistant to work directly alongside the surgeon: first assisting in the OR, managing pre- and post- operative care, and serving as the clinical anchor for the medical assistant team. This is a hands-on surgical and clinical role that offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment committed to excellence in surgical outcomes and patient care. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive clinical expertise, exceptional patient assessment skills, and a genuine, calming bedside manner.
Responsibilities
- First-assist in surgery and help run an efficient two-room OR flow.
- Perform clinical procedures including suturing and suture removal, injection administration, and the harvesting and processing of fat for grafting.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments including physical examinations, vital signs monitoring, and medical history documentation.
- Serve as the first point of contact and clinical lead for medical assistants, fielding both clinical questions and patient questions.
- Oversee the pre-operative preparation and medical clearance for surgical patients, supervising the medical assistant team (who carry out the day-to-day tasks) and ensuring each patient is cleared and ready before surgery.
- Manage postoperative care, including wound management, pain control, and patient education.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within electronic health records (EHR) systems while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Requirements
- Active California PA license and current NCCPA certification.
- Demonstrated experience in surgical settings, with first-assist experience strongly preferred.
- Exceptional manual dexterity and steady hands, with the ability to work under surgical loupes and perform delicate suture removal of fine sutures.
- Meticulous, detail-oriented personality with an emphasis on precision.
- Comfort with minor in-office procedures and injections.
- Polished, professional presence.
- Reliable, responsive, and comfortable leading a small clinical team.
- BLS and ACLS required.
- Willingness, flexibility, and reliable transportation to work across multiple practice locations in the greater Los Angeles area, following the surgeon's schedule as needed.
