Physician Assistant (Full-Time, Part-Time, Contract or Internships)

Laguna Urgent Care, a privately owned physician-led urgent care in beautiful Laguna Beach, California, is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Physician Assistant to join our team. We are open to full-time, part-time, contract or internship candidates.

We welcome both experienced Physician Assistants and motivated new graduates who are eager to learn in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Our providers care for patients of all ages, from pediatrics through geriatrics, in a fast-paced urgent care setting.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and treat patients of all ages presenting with acute illnesses and injuries.
• Obtain comprehensive medical histories, perform physical examinations, and develop appropriate treatment plans.
• Order and interpret laboratory studies, X-rays, EKGs, and other diagnostic tests.
• Perform common urgent care procedures, including:
  • Laceration repair
  • Incision and drainage (I&D)
  • Splinting and fracture management
  • Partial nail avulsion/excision
  • Foreign body removal
  • Joint injections (preferred)
• Prescribe medications in accordance with California regulations and DEA requirements.
• Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently using the electronic medical record (PracticeSuite EMR).
• Collaborate with supervising physicians while maintaining the ability to practice independently within the PA scope of practice.
• Provide compassionate, evidence-based care with excellent patient communication.

Common Conditions Treated

Experience evaluating and managing common urgent care presentations, including but not limited to:

• Upper respiratory infections
• COVID-19, influenza, and streptococcal pharyngitis
• Otitis media and otitis externa
• Urinary tract infections
• Sexually transmitted infections
• Community-acquired pneumonia
• Allergic reactions
• Skin rashes and minor dermatologic conditions
• Minor fractures and musculoskeletal injuries
• Lacerations and abscesses
• Occupational injuries
• Pre-employment, sports, school, and pre-operative physical examinations

Preferred Skills

Candidates should be comfortable performing or willing to learn:

• Incision and drainage (I&D)
• Laceration repair
• Digital nerve blocks
• Partial nail avulsion/excision
• Splinting and orthopedic injury management
• Independent X-ray interpretation
• EKG interpretation

Qualifications

• Current California Physician Assistant license
• Current DEA registration (or eligible to obtain)
• Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred)
• Strong computer skills and experience with EMRs (PracticeSuite experience is a plus)
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Professional appearance and positive, patient-centered attitude

Experience

• New graduates are encouraged to apply.
• One or more years of urgent care, emergency medicine, or family medicine experience is preferred but not required.
