Laguna Urgent Care, a privately owned physician-led urgent care in beautiful Laguna Beach, California, is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Physician Assistant to join our team. We are open to full-time, part-time, contract or internship candidates.
We welcome both experienced Physician Assistants and motivated new graduates who are eager to learn in a supportive, collaborative environment.
Our providers care for patients of all ages, from pediatrics through geriatrics, in a fast-paced urgent care setting.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and treat patients of all ages presenting with acute illnesses and injuries.
- Obtain comprehensive medical histories, perform physical examinations, and develop appropriate treatment plans.
- Order and interpret laboratory studies, X-rays, EKGs, and other diagnostic tests.
- Perform common urgent care procedures, including:
- Laceration repair
- Incision and drainage (I&D)
- Splinting and fracture management
- Partial nail avulsion/excision
- Foreign body removal
- Joint injections (preferred)
- Prescribe medications in accordance with California regulations and DEA requirements.
- Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently using the electronic medical record (PracticeSuite EMR).
- Collaborate with supervising physicians while maintaining the ability to practice independently within the PA scope of practice.
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based care with excellent patient communication.
Common Conditions Treated
Experience evaluating and managing common urgent care presentations, including but not limited to:
- Upper respiratory infections
- COVID-19, influenza, and streptococcal pharyngitis
- Otitis media and otitis externa
- Urinary tract infections
- Sexually transmitted infections
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Allergic reactions
- Skin rashes and minor dermatologic conditions
- Minor fractures and musculoskeletal injuries
- Lacerations and abscesses
- Occupational injuries
- Pre-employment, sports, school, and pre-operative physical examinations
Preferred Skills
Candidates should be comfortable performing or willing to learn:
- Incision and drainage (I&D)
- Laceration repair
- Digital nerve blocks
- Partial nail avulsion/excision
- Splinting and orthopedic injury management
- Independent X-ray interpretation
- EKG interpretation
Qualifications
- Current California Physician Assistant license
- Current DEA registration (or eligible to obtain)
- Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred)
- Strong computer skills and experience with EMRs (PracticeSuite experience is a plus)
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Professional appearance and positive, patient-centered attitude
Experience
- New graduates are encouraged to apply.
- One or more years of urgent care, emergency medicine, or family medicine experience is preferred but not required.
